Jutsu:
Mind Body Switch Technique
Name: Shintenshin no Jutsu, S“]g‚Ìp, literally "Mind Body Switch Technique" Viz "Art of the Valentine" English TV "Ninja Art: Mind Transfer Jutsu"
Type: C-rank, Supplementary, Short to mid-range (0-10m)
Users: Ino Yamanaka
This jutsu allows the user to enter a target's mind, taking control of their body and senses. Known normally as a spying jutsu, it can also be used in battle with several major drawbacks. The user's spirit travels slowly, making it somewhat easy to dodge, and if they miss their target, they are left helpless for a span of several minutes, the time it takes to return to their own body. Even if the technique does work, the user's ability to stay in an enemy's body is determined by how fatigued they are. When the user is inside of the target's body, any damage that is inflicted upon the target will also be inflicted upon their original body. Therefore, if the target dies, so does the user. Also, the user can be forced out if facing a strong enough will (or two wills, in Sakura Haruno's case).
Art of the Valentine, which is used along with Shintenshin no Jutsu in the Viz English manga, is not a literal translation of Shintenshin no Jutsu, although Shintenshin is a Japanese card game that literally means "Change of Heart".
Mind Body Disturbance Technique
Name: Shinranshin no Jutsu, S—g‚Ìp, literally "Mind Body Disturbance Technique"
Type: B-rank, Supplementary, Close to mid-range (0-10m)
Users: Inoichi Yamanaka, Ino Yamanaka
A more advanced form of the Mind Body Switch Technique, this skill is used for confusing enemies into attacking their own allies, wreaking havoc among enemy lines. By forming a rectangular hand seal, the user is able to send a spirit of confusion into their target. Although the target is mentally aware of what they are doing, they are unable to control their body. For this particular jutsu, the user is able to stay in their own body, unlike its predecessor. In the anime, it has been revealed that Ino also knows this jutsu.
New Approaching Technique
Name: Shin-dashin no Jutsu, literally New Approaching Technique
Type: Unknown, possibly: D-rank
Users: Ino Yamanaka
This jutsu, simply put, envelops a target in a puff of smoke and drags them to the user's location. It's unlikely that it would work over long distances. When Ino used it on Naruto Uzumaki, she only dragged him a few feet.
Rope Escape Technique
Name: Nawanuke no Jutsu, “ꔲ‚¯‚Ìp, literally "Rope Escape Technique" English TV "Escape Jutsu"
Type: E-rank, Supplementary
Users: All Ninja Academy graduates
A basic technique taught at the Ninja academy, this jutsu allows a ninja to free themselves if they have been tied up.
Body Replacement Technique
Body Replacement Technique
Name: Kawarimi no Jutsu, •Ï‚í‚èg‚Ìp, literally "Body Replacement Technique", "Change of Body Technique", "Change of Stance Technique", "Replacement Technique", English TV "Replacement Jutsu", "Substitution Jutsu"
Type: E-rank, Supplementary
Users: All Ninja Academy graduates
This jutsu lets the user quickly switch places with another nearby object, such as a plant (normally a section of a log), an animal, or even another person within reach, leaving the opponent open to a counter-attack. Explosive tags can be attached to the replacement for an added surprise, which Sasuke has done. Fundamentally, all ninja know this technique.
The anime has a number of other objects being used for this jutsu, such as a straw man, a boulder, mud, and even a scarecrow. The first and last items are never anywhere in sight, suggesting that they are merely gags meant to lighten the situation, and not an actual part of the jutsu.
This technique is sometimes referred to as the Art of Body Projection ("Utsusemi no Jutsu") in other manga and anime series.
History:
Ino Yamanaka was a genin assigned to Asuma Sarutobi's Team 10. She is a skilled kunoichi and with her teammates, Shikamaru Nara and Choji Akimichi, they make up the 2nd-generation Ino-Shika-Cho Trio. At first, it seemed as though Ino disliked both Shikamaru and Choji (Shikamaru for being dull and unpopular and Choji for being fat), but she actually holds a strong bond with both of them. Ino is the daughter of Inoichi Yamanaka and part of the Yamanaka family, who owns a small flower shop in Konoha. Part of her bond with her teammates might come from her father, as he was teammates and good friends with the fathers of Shikamaru and Choji. At her graduation she was known as a high-level female rookie. She is talented in the way of the flower (Ikebana) as well as mind-altering jutsu. She is the friendly rival of Sakura Haruno.
Ino and Sakura
Ino was Sakura Haruno's first friend and helped Sakura develop her own identity and self-worth. As a child, she gave Sakura a ribbon so she didn't have to hide her forehead, the source of much teasing and subsequent anguish. From that point on, Sakura and Ino were best friends. As Sakura became more outgoing, she developed a crush on Sasuke Uchiha, the most popular boy in the Academy and Ino's secret crush. When Sakura found out, she ended their friendship and she and Ino developed into bitter, yet still unsuccessful, rivals over Sasuke's attention.
Part I
Chunin Exam Arc
Ino's Mind Body Switch Technique leaves her body incapacitated.
As part of the 'Rookie Nine', Ino was chosen to participate in the Chunin Exam. During the written test portion of the exam, Ino used her Mind Body Switch Technique to get the answers (specifically Sakura's) and complete Shikamaru's and Choji's tests for them.
One of the weakest teams in the exam, they had trouble locating the scroll to complete the second portion of the exam. While trying to find a weak enough team to ambush, they ran into Sakura fighting Dosu, Kin, and Zaku. As Sakura's fight with Zaku deteriorates, Ino recalls the good times she had with Sakura as a child; Ultimately she decides to assist Sakura in defending the still unconscious Naruto and Sasuke. Just before Ino comes to help, the female sound ninja Kin then grabs Sakura's hair and admonishes her for being more focused on keeping it pretty and stylish rather than giving all her time and effort to her ninja training. Sakura then cuts her hair with a kunai knife, releasing Kin's grip on her and leaving Ino amazed as she kept her hair long to impress Sasuke and cutting her hair was an equivalent to her giving up her love for Sasuke. Sakura is able to bite Zaku in the arm, but he brutally fights her off and prepares to use his Decapitating Air Wave on her.
It is at this moment that Ino's team decides to jump in. Shikamaru uses his Shadow Imitation Technique to bind Dosu. Ino then tells Shikamaru to take care of her body as she uses Mind Body Switch Technique to transfer to Kin. She then holds a Kunai to her throat and threatens to kill Kin (which, interestingly, is the equivalent of committing suicide, since, as Zaku finds out a few minutes later by attacking Ino-possessed Kin, anything that happens to whoever she possesses happens to her body also). After Sasuke chases the Sound Nin away, Team 7 and the Ino-Shika-Cho Second Generation part ways. Ino and her team supposedly take a scroll off-screen because they are seen as three of the participants of the Third Exam Preliminaries.
In the preliminary matches of the Chunin Exam, Ino and Sakura are paired up to fight. Ino cleverly performs her Mind Body Switch Technique successfully, but is unable to make Sakura (and, to Ino's surprise and horror, "Inner Sakura" for that matter) give up. The two knock each other out and neither continues on to the final matches. After the matches, Ino and Sakura rekindle their friendship as Ino fully recognizes that Sakura has "bloomed into a beautiful flower" and tells her such.
It is also during this fight that Sakura gives Ino a reprimand similar to the one Kin gave to her in regards to Ino's beautiful and well-kept hair. Not to be outdone or insulted by Sakura's newfound determination, Ino cuts her hair as well, shocking everyone (Shikamaru actually thinks Ino has "completely snapped.") except for Sakura, who simply states, "You are so simple-minded." But it isn't until later that Ino reveals that she really severed her locks so that they could serve as a lasso to subdue Sakura and hold her in place long enough for Ino to perform her Mind Body Switch Technique later in the match.
The first appearance of "Inner Ino".
In the Mizuki Arc, Ino and her team are assigned to back up Naruto in defeating Mizuki and his subordinates, Fujin and Raijin. As the Ino-Shika-Cho Trio begin fighting Fujin and Raijin, it's revealed that Ino has learned the Mind Body Disturbance Technique. Although not in the manga, it is assumed Ino has learned this technique by the start of Naruto II.
She also helps out in the Sea Country Arc with Anko, Shino, and Naruto. At the beginning of the mission, Ino acts somewhat coldly towards her mix-and-match group of teammates. However, later on, she seems to gain a lot of respect for them.
Later, Ino is sent on a mission to take the place of the (recently) overweight Princess Fuku during her meeting at an arranged marriage. During this mission, we see that Ino also has an inner self, similar to that of her rival Sakura's. In that episode, Naruto uses his Sexy Jutsu to replace Ino when he thought she was placing the mission in jeopardy. Once Ino finds out, she retaliates by using New Approaching Technique, causing Naruto to quickly return to her through a trap door in the floor.
She also briefly appeared in Episode 193, during which her team, while trying to transport cargo, were attacked by a group of monkeys intent on stealing Choji's snacks.
Part II
Ino Yamanaka in Naruto II
Ino makes her Naruto II debut in Chapter 284 showing up just after Choji and Shikamaru fought Sai, yelling because Choji was late for a mission they were both leaving on with Asuma. She is seen wearing a button-up top and skirt. She has apparently done away with the full-body bandages she wore and has also grown her hair once again. Like the other rookies during the 2.5-year time jump, she has also become a Chunin. She doesn't wear her ninja headband around her waist anymore as she previously did.
Ino first meets Sai when her team, including Asuma Sarutobi, pays a visit to Kakashi in the hospital. Immediately, Ino recognizes the resemblance between Sai and Sasuke and, in classic fashion, develops a juvenile infatuation for the new face. Her sudden feelings are only strengthened further after Sai gives her the nickname ggorgeoush or gpretty lady,h which is seemingly a compliment on her appearance, when in fact, Sai was simply complimenting her out of fear of a similar violent reprieve to his calling Sakura "ugly".

Ino sighed, as she pushed flower petals and leaves off the counter top, leaning on her elbows. She started making challanges against the breeze the floated through the door. If she could blow that cherry blossum petal off the counter before the wind took it. She'd reward herself by closing the shop down for the day, and meeting up with her friends. So far, she wasn't doing so good against the wind.
Ino eyed the door, thinking about closing it, when she remembered that today was the same day, as she recalled, that Sasuke left konoha. Boy time flied when was the last time she had meet up with her team... Her thoughts were intrupted as the door bells gingled and a woman and her daughter walked into. "Konichi'wa! Welcome to the Yamanaka flower shop, what can I help you with." She said brightly, suddenly feeling more awake. Giving a smile to the girl, who had thick brown curls and an innoccent and cute look on her face.
"I'm looking for flowers to give to a sick family member, can you recomend any?" The woman asked, her voice was strong, but carried a melony, and was sort of wonderful to hear. "Well, daises are one, or.. Cherry blossoms.." Ino said, suddenly remebering she hadn't seen Sakura for a whole month now. "Both would be great..." The woman said, with a hint on a smile, but Ino saw none. As the woman left the shop, and the daughter waved goodbye, Ino promised herself that she would call Sakura, Hinata, and her team mates.
